AICPA Addresses Top Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Issues and More in August Tax Clinic

by Tony Bakale

August 08, 2019 Federal Tax Planning & Compliance, High Net Worth & Wealth Transfer, Investment Company Tax, State & Local Tax, Transaction Tax Planning, Digital Assets, Real Estate & Construction

As always, there is a lot going on in the tax world that impacts businesses and their owners, this year in particular due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. It was my privilege to again serve as editor of the AICPA’s Tax Adviser August Tax Clinic, a special section in the professional journal that brings current tax issues to the forefront.

This year’s Cohen & Company contributors focused on helping practitioners nationwide better understand areas such as estate planning, Opportunity Zones, Section 199A for RICs and small taxpayer gross receipts rules.

Below is a comprehensive list of Cohen & Company articles as they appear in the issue.

  1. Impact of S Corp. Shareholder Agreements in M&A Transactions – Phil Baptiste, CPA, MT
  2. Estate Planning for Digital Assets – Cynthia Pedersen, J.D., LL.M.
  3. Estate Planning for the Other 99% – Scott Swain, CPA, CFA, CFP, MT and Nicole Rococi, CPA, MT
  4. Sec. 199A Dividends Paid by a RIC with Interest in REITs and PTPs – Andreana Shengelya, CPA, MT and Robert A. Velotta, CPA, MT
  5. Treasury Reverses Position on Qualifying Income for RICs Invested in Certain Foreign Corporations – Jay Laurila, CPA, MT
  6. IRS Issues Second Set of Proposed Regulations on Opportunity Zones – Angel Rice, CPA, MT, MAcc and Dave Sobochan, CPA
  7. Risks and Opportunities for Third-Party Partnership Representatives – Derek Godwin, CPA (formerly with Cohen & Company)
  8. M&A Considerations in Light of Wayfair – Sara Britt, J.D. and Hannah Prengler, CPA
  9. Understanding Small Taxpayer Gross Receipts Rules – Lisa Loychik, CPA and Jonathan R. Williamson, CPA (formerly with Cohen & Company)
