Kim Palmer and Hannah Prengler to Represent Cohen & Company in Top AICPA Roles

Cohen & Company congratulates two of the firm’s leaders on their recent, prestigious American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) appointments. Effective May 17, 2022, Kim Palmer serves on the Partnership Taxation Technical Resource Panel and Hannah Prengler joins the State and Local Taxation Technical Resource Panel.

Tax Partner Kim Palmer, CPA, MT, has been named to the AICPA’s Partnership Taxation Technical Resource Panel. This panel monitors legislative and regulatory activity related to partnership taxation; provides oversight for task forces created to address specific issues related to tax law, regulatory rules and tax process relating to partnership taxation; and maintains appropriate relationships with the IRS, Treasury, Congress and other government officials. The panel also collaborates with other organizations and acts as a resource to assist the other committees, technical resource panels and task forces on partnership tax matters.

Kim serves on Cohen & Company’s Board and leads the firm’s Partnership Tax Group. She focuses on tax issues primarily relating to the real estate industry, including commercial, industrial, self-storage and multi-family, as well as real estate funds; clients renting telecommunications equipment; and clients structured as partnerships that fall into many other industries. Kim assists clients with complex restructuring transactions, including the purchase/sale of assets and ownership interests, buyouts between owners, issuance of ownership interests and debt restructuring transactions. Her additional areas of expertise include like-kind exchanges, partnership transactions, exit strategies, disguised sale transactions, waterfall allocations and transactions, and UPREIT and REIT transactions.

As a member of the AICPA’s State and Local Taxation Technical Resource Panel, Tax Partner Hannah Prengler, CPA, will help the panel monitor legislative and regulatory activity in the state and local tax area and suggest areas for modifications to simplify and clarify state and local tax rules. The panel also provides oversight to task forces created to address specific issues or improvements to tax law, regulatory rules and tax process relating to state and local taxation; collaborates and works on joint projects with other organizations; and acts as a resource to assist the other committees, technical resource panels and task forces on state and local tax matters.

Hannah leads Cohen & Company’s Leads Cohen & Company’s State and Local Taxation Group and specializes in providing state and local tax compliance and consulting services to companies of all sizes and structures. She has significant experience in assisting taxpayers with income/franchise compliance, tax provision assistance, sales/use tax procedures, property tax, nexus reviews and audit defense. Additionally, Hannah has worked with numerous companies evaluating transactional tax risks and opportunities, such as identifying the optimal transaction structure, considering proper tax indemnifications, prioritizing historic and transactional tax liabilities, and implementing controls to limit the perpetuation of material exposures pre-acquisition. She takes a leadership role in educating the firm’s multistate clients about current tax legislation and court decisions impacting their business.
