Specifically, he stays up to date on complex U.S. federal income and international tax issues facing the private equity and real estate industries.
Since beginning his public accounting career in 2013, James has honed his expertise in the area of international tax, serving real estate funds, Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), and foreign and tax-exempt investors. Specifically, he assists clients with U.S. international and cross-border taxation matters, including related financing, treaty qualification, U.S. withholding taxes, FIRPTA considerations, sovereign wealth funds, qualified foreign pension funds, and international M&A advisory and fund structuring. James also has extensive experience assisting private equity funds with their federal tax planning and compliance. Some of his additional areas of expertise include partnership transactions, waterfall allocations, disguised sale transactions, fund structuring for U.S. tax exempt investors, and assistance in development and/or review of after-tax cash flow models.
James lives in West Bloomfield, Michigan. A lover of the great outdoors, he enjoys hiking with his dog, kayaking and paddleboarding. He is also a life-long Detroit Lions, Detroit Red Wings and University of Michigan Football fan who loves going to games and rooting for his home teams.
