Cohen & Company congratulates Tax Director Cynthia Pedersen on her recent, prestigious appointment to the American Institute of CPAs’ (AICPA) Tax Practice Responsibilities Committee.
The Tax Practice Responsibilities Committee (TPRC) develops and monitors the professional ethical standards impacting AICPA members who provide tax services. The TPRC works with its AICPA liaison to develop and review practice aids to help members maintain the highest level of ethical standards and quality control, monitors developments on issues related to internal and external ethical standards, and acts as a subject matter expert on advocacy issues. The committee also collaborates with internal AICPA staff, committees and technical resource panels on projects related to tax practice standards and ethics and other rules impacting non-attest services.
Cynthia’s areas of specialty include taxation of hedge funds, international tax compliance, tax compliance for tax-exempt organizations, and ultra-high-net-worth estate succession planning. Her background as an attorney, and specifically as an estate planner, makes her a vigilant adviser when it comes to tax issues for high-net-worth individuals considering changes to their business structures and investments.
In addition, Cynthia is responsible for firmwide tax research pertaining to a broad range of issues that influence alternative investment fund managers and investors. Beginning in 2016, she became actively engaged in the firm’s Cryptocurrency Group, providing tax consulting to emerging managers. As the cryptocurrency asset class rapidly evolves, Cynthia continues to help shape the firm’s tax positions. She is a frequent writer and speaker, including writing for the AICPA’s Tax Adviser and serving as a panelist at CoinAlts Fund Symposium.
