Cohen & Company is pleased to announce Stephen Fisher, JD, LLM, an independent contractor working with the firm’s Investment Company Tax Group, will help serve Cohen & Company’s growing registered funds client base as a Senior Consultant, Tax.
One of the top experts and nationally recognized authorities on the taxation of mutual funds, Fisher is an accomplished attorney and Big 4 executive with over 30 years of experience in the mutual fund industry. He has extensive knowledge of the taxation issues associated with complex investments, investment strategies and fund governance, as well as a thorough understanding of the operational and business aspects of mutual fund complexes. Fisher will help the firm’s clients address highly complex and technical tax issues, including consulting on issuing tax opinions and technical memos, and helping to evaluate complex tax structures and security transactions for asset managers and their advisers. His deep expertise includes working with open- and closed-end mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), interval funds and business development companies.

Fisher is a three-time patent holder for financial-services-related inventions; former lecturer and adjunct professor at Boston University School of Law and a former member of Investment Company Institute committees for nearly 20 years. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School; an LL.M. from Boston University School of Law; and a B.A. with distinction from Swarthmore College, member Phi Beta Kappa.
