Cohen Fund Audit Services Adds Expertise, Adopts New Name & Brand – October 12, 2016

Effective September 16, 2016, Cohen Fund Audit Services will be known as the Investment Industry Services Division of its related entity, Cohen & Company, Ltd. The division also has named Chris Bellamy president and added expertise in key areas to support its rapid growth.

“We need to stay responsive to the changing needs of our clients, who operate in a very challenging and complex industry,” says Bellamy, who has been with the firm for over 17 years and drives the strategic and tactical initiatives for the Investment Industry Services Division. “Aligning the services we provide with the overall breadth and depth of Cohen & Company will offer our clients even greater resources.”
In conjunction with the name change, Cohen & Company launched a new brand and website to better reflect its comprehensive offerings.

“We know that our ‘brand’ is the collective perception our clients have of the value we provide over time, and that formal branding follows energy; it does not create it,” says long-time Cohen & Company CEO Randy Myeroff. “Our new logo and web design better represent how the firm and our clients have evolved over nearly 40 years in terms of sophistication and capability. It’s a more accurate reflection of who we are today, and will serve us well long into the future.”

Myeroff adds, “We also used the new website as an opportunity to highlight the three divisions that fuel the firm’s growth: Investment Industry Services, Private Company Services and Management Advisory Services.”

In particular, the Investment Industry Services Division has greatly expanded in terms of capability and services. Previously focused primarily on audit services, the division has developed a unique and deep expertise in tax services specifically for the investment industry. The practice includes a broad knowledge base in areas such as master limited partnerships (MLPs), exchange traded funds (ETFs) and outsourcing of the mutual fund tax function. Additionally, the firm has grown its national footprint by adding new client relationships and office locations in industry hubs such as Milwaukee, WI and New York, NY.

“Our success is clearly driven by the talent and dedication of our team members,” Bellamy says.

Accordingly, the Investment Industry Services Division has brought in additional technical expertise at the director and partner level, the most recent of whom come from large, international firms. Ravi Singh is the partner-in-charge of the New York City office. He is using his experience as the former leader of a registered funds tax practice, along with his 30-plus years in the investment industry, to build talent in the firm’s tax practice. Lori Novak, based in the Cleveland office, recently joined Cohen & Company with 20 years of audit experience focusing on the area of investment management. She will play a key role in the quality control and technical initiatives of the firm. Finally, leading the development of the tax services team in the Milwaukee office is Jay Laurila, with over 13 years experience related to a wide range of tax issues and client types within the investment industry.

The Investment Industry Division of Cohen & Company has approximately 85 associates, is ranked as the fifth largest auditor of registered funds in the United States (based on number of issuers), and provides audit and tax services exclusively to mutual funds, hedge funds, exchange traded funds and other investment vehicles.
