This summer, I have had the pleasure of working in Cohen & Company’s Cleveland office as a tax intern and experiencing the firm’s culture. The way I describe a positive work culture is providing support to employees, prioritizing employees’ well-being, and creating an overall fun and productive work environment. All these points have been met and exceeded throughout my summer internship thus far.
When I started my internship, we were all welcomed with open arms and given a tour of the office. It was already so exciting to witness all the other employees working and see their relationships with one another within 10 minutes of walking into the office. We could see how much work everyone had put into our arrival — from our new bags and work laptops, to pre-selected learning buddies for each of us, to a great intern lunch brought into the office. I knew Cohen & Company would be an amazing place to work and that I could gain support from anyone in the office. It was clear everyone was excited for us to begin our internship and help us to expand our knowledge in the accounting world.
It’s also clear Cohen & Company cares about their employees and their well-being, and I have seen this throughout the entire summer. The firm offers the option to work in a hybrid environment, which is great for flexibility. They also paired us each up with a learning buddy to feel more comfortable. I have had a great experience with my learning buddy; we’ve gone out to lunch and grabbed coffee together, making me feel so welcome at the firm. Being able to take a quick break from work and step away from your computer shows you how much the firm cares about employees taking care of themselves.
With the option of working in a hybrid work environment, most people would think this can halt the experience of building a fun and productive work environment. However, through my experience, even if you are meeting with someone virtually, it is still very easy to get to know them and feel comfortable reaching out and asking questions. When I go into the office, there is always someone who wants to get lunch or go grab coffee. I have enjoyed getting to know them better, regardless of their level in the firm. Cohen & Company also provides a very productive work environment by creating many opportunities to ask questions, along with many resources so you are never left confused or unsure.
Overall, my experience interning at Cohen & Company has exceeded my expectations, and I am excited to see where the rest of the summer takes me!
