As Director of Strategic Development, Ricks primary administrative responsibilities include coordination of firm-wide strategic development initiatives, non-traditional business lines and value-added acquisitions/mergers. This includes Cohen Capital Advisors, Sequoia Financial Group, the firms HR and CFO services groups, and the geographic expansion of the firms core services. Rick also coordinates utilization of Baker Tilly International, our worldwide network of independent firms. This follows 21 years as Director of Tax Operations in the Youngstown office and management and marketing in Mahoning Valley. Primary client responsibilities include servicing closely-held businesses and entrepreneurs on a wide variety of business and tax issues.
After graduating from Youngstown State University, Rick received a law degree from The University of Akron. While attending law school, he was a field examiner for the Ohio Department of Taxation. Rick is a member of the American and Ohio Bar Associations, the American Institute of CPAs, Beta Alpha Psi, and the Ohio Society of CPAs. In addition, Rick has been active in numerous committees and task forces of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce and is a frequent lecturer at seminars for a number of organizations, including Youngstown State University, the Mahoning County Bar Association and firm-sponsored seminars.
Rick serves on the boards of the Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corporation, the Youngstown Business Incubator, the Western Reserve Port Authority and the University Housing Corporation at Youngstown State University (YSU). He is a trustee for the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education and the YSU Foundation. He was a founding member of the Mahoning Valley funding source for the National Foundation of Fighting Blindness as well as the Crandall House Parent Resource Center & Toy Library. Rick is a former Board Member of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, the Youngstown Symphony Society, the Youngstown Playhouse and Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way.
Rick also spends much of his time as Chairman of the Board of the United Community Financial Corp., and Home Savings and Loan Company of Youngstown, and he sits on the Board of Advisors of the Williamson College of Business Administration at YSU and chairing various task forces of U.S. Congressman Tim Ryan.
An avid sports enthusiast, Rick describes himself as a novice downhill skier and a lousy, but frequent, golfer. He also enjoys art and travel in his hours away from the office. But mostly, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Susan, and their four children, Teal, Ryan, Gabby and Jori.
