“Top Accounting Firms” in Northeast Ohio: What That Should Mean to You – October 27, 2015 by Randy Myeroff

Earlier this week Crain’s Cleveland Business released its ranking of the “Largest Accounting Firms” in Northeast Ohio. We are honored to be third on the list, after national giants Ernst & Young and PwC. We congratulate all of the firms named to the list this year.

But of the 23 firms named, how do you even begin to evaluate which one may be right for you? Of course expertise is the first “must have” but can be difficult to truly evaluate. If you assume that playing field is level (which isn’t necessarily true), I would argue the next most important area to evaluate is whether a firm has the energy and passion to truly engage with you and your team.

As consumers of any service, including accounting services, ask yourself:

  • Am I an important customer?
  • Have they asked the right questions to provide me with the right experience?
  • Do they deliver what they promised?
  • Am I just a number, or are they personally invested in me, my business and my success?

It’s the team that goes out of their way to prove they are focused on their clients’ success that will … keep the customer coming back.

As with many service decisions, personal recommendations can play an important role. And while you don’t see many (if any) reviews of accounting firms on Yelp, you can learn a lot by asking peers what their experience has been.

Each client service experience can be great, bad or indifferent. But it’s the team that goes out of their way to prove they are focused on their clients’ success that will likely develop a long-standing relationship — and a value proposition that will keep the customer coming back.
