Ohio Announces Dates for 2017 “Back-to-School” Sales Tax Holiday – July 05, 2017 by Karen Raghanti

The state of Ohio will once again offer a sales tax holiday weekend just in time for back-to-school shopping. Beginning Friday, August 4th (starting at 12:00 a.m.) through Sunday, August 6th (until 11:59 p.m.), individuals can purchase items in the following three categories without being charged any Ohio sales or use tax:

  1. Clothing ($75/item or less)
  2. School supplies ($20/item or less)
  3. School instructional materials ($20/item or less)

See the state’s detailed Q&A section for more information about the tax holiday and how it may or may not apply. Keep in mind that this tax holiday does not apply to items purchased for use in a trade or business. If the retailer does not collect sales tax at the time of the business purchase, you will need to report and pay the appropriate use tax on the items.
